Michael Milken on activism | Video on TED.com

Michael Milken on activism | Video on TED.com:

I am not sure where to put this one. Milken is mentioned in my classes all the time, but this is not finance. Moreover, while posted only last month, it was filmed 8 years ago. He talks on everything from finance, to charity, to adding value. So I will put it on FinanceClass and the RandomTopics2 blogs. He talks about the difference people can make, which while not strictly a financial topic, it is a lesson that is VERY important. (oh and many of his solutions are financial!)
"Michael Milken talks about using your own particular set of skills to make real change in the world. In his case, the energetic mind that once created exotic bonds is now driving the 'Manhattan Project of cancer' -- with lifesaving results."

Armstrong urges smoking ban in Texas - Cycling - Yahoo! Sports

Armstrong urges smoking ban in Texas - Cycling - Yahoo! Sports:
"Cyclist Lance Armstrong joined forces with anti-smoking groups Thursday, urging Texas lawmakers to pass a statewide ban on smoking in bars, restaurants and other indoor work and public places.

“This is an important idea, a bold idea for Texas,” Armstrong said after a rally with more than 100 supporters outside the state Capitol."

I stopped at a bar in Bridge City during the NFL playoffs when there with BonaResponds. volunteers. This is DESPERATELY needed!! I could not stay there and actually rushed back to camp to run and shower to try to get some of the smoke out of my system and I was only there about 10 minutes.

Rational Or Experiential? New Study Highlights Differences In Thinking Styles

Rational Or Experiential? New Study Highlights Differences In Thinking Styles:
"Authors Thomas P. Novak and Donna L. Hoffman (both University of California, Riverside) say consumers tend to think either rationally or experientially and marketers should design experiences for consumers that allow a good fit between the style and the task.

The authors describe rational thinking as 'logical, effortful, and analytic,' and experiential thinking as 'associative, lower effort, and holistic.' Examples of rational activities include work, carefully considered decisions, and goal-directed tasks, while experiential activities include playing, browsing, and impulse buying."

Disaster: Yellowstone Due for Eruption that Could Obliterate North America:
"Dozens of nearly-imperceptible mini-earthquakes have made Yellowstone National Park tremble over the past few days - they might be early warning of an eruption so huge it buries half the U.S. under hot ash."
