Portsmouth Herald Maine News: Hurricane relief volunteer keeps message alive: "The volunteer organization received scant media coverage, which seemed only to show the chilling scenes of a swamped New Orleans. HOUSA’s base in Biloxi, Miss., was nevertheless centered in a city that had been brought to its knees by the wrath of Katrina.
'I had no idea what I would encounter,' Woodward said. 'I didn’t realize there would be miles and miles of devastation.'
Biloxi, a city of roughly 50,000 people, is located on a thin peninsula that juts into the Gulf of Mexico. When Katrina struck, Woodward says 20- to 30-foot walls of water battered the shore for nearly 10 hours."
